'Login as' Feature
Please be aware that the 'login as' permission is designed to be used only by trusted, experienced users in your site. It is VERY powerful. eWorks does not recommend giving this permission to users other than those with paadmin or tvcadmin access.
A user with the permission to 'login as' another user in the site:
1. Can 'login as' any other user except an administrator account. This means that they can log in as an editing teacher, or even as TVC Administrator or the paadmin role - and delete users, courses, etc. They cannot 'login as' the eWorks admin account.
2. logs are not recorded. So if a user 'logs in as' a teacher and changes learners' grades, the grades are changed, but the changes are not logged.
If you have a user who really needs this 'log in as' feature, it is possible to make a new role with the 'log in as' permission, and just apply it at the course level. The user can then 'log in as' another participant, but this only applies within the context of this course. If they send messages to other users - and it will look like the messages come from the user they are 'logged in as'.
Please be very careful with this permission.
eWorks recommend that if any user other than the site Administrator, i.e. teacher or manager, has this permission applied, then a new role should be created, and you should have it applied in a Course context only unless there is a strong business case to the contrary.
See testing results below for further clarification.
A role with 'login as' permission was created - called 'test_role'
1. 'test_role' user has 'login as' throughout site
- log in
- go to course
- click on Navigation> Participants
- click on teacher
- click on Administration> Profile setting for...> Login as
- can then go to any course this teacher has access to - change grades, etc
- what the user does when 'logged in as' is NOT recorded on the logs
- Can't 'login as' an Admin user
2. 'test_role' user has 'login as' just in course, and logs in as editing teacher
- log in
- go to course
- click on Navigation> Participants
- click on teacher
- click on Administration> Profile setting for...> Login as
- can NOT go to other courses teacher has access to
- what the user does when 'logged in as' is NOT recorded on the logs
- Can't 'login as' an Admin user
3. 'test_role' user has 'login as' just in course, and logs in as paadmin(high)
- go to course
- click on Navigation> Participants
- click on user with paadmin role
- click on Administration> Profile setting for...> Login as
- can NOT go to other courses paadmin has access to
- can see 'messages', and send messages (and the message was received)
- what the user does when 'logged in as' is NOT recorded on the logs
