A bug has been discovered when using stealth activities and restrictions with the Ally theme enabled.
The bug occurs in a particular scenario whereby users (specifically Teachers and Non-Editing teachers) can receive an 'Invalid course module id' error when accessing certain activities that are in stealth mode and with restrictions e.g. forum and assignment. The error can only occur when Ally is enabled but doesn't happen for every activity.
Expected behaviour: When a user who is a Student tries to access an activity that is restricted and the activity is set up in stealth mode with a link on the page, for students who do not meet the restrictions this link won't work, and for students that do meet the restrictions, the link will work.
Unexpected behaviour: When a user who is a Teacher or Non-Editing Teacher tries to access the link they receive an "Invalid course module ID" error.
Workarounds
We have determined that removing the restrictions returns expected behaviour for Teachers and Non-Editing Teachers, however, this may not be desirable because it would allow students to access the activity as well.
Blackboard has acknowledged that this is a bug caused by Ally, therefore if you disable the Ally filters within a specific course where this bug is occurring, normal function will also be returned. This can be achieved by going to > Course administration>Filters>Ally>Off
When will the bug be fixed?
A fix for the bug is aimed to be applied to hotfix 2, which will be applied over the weekend. Note, however, that this fix is 'aimed', which does not guarantee that it will be included in the next scheduled update.
eWorks will notify clients through this article if the fix was deployed over the weekend.
